Coastal Chic inspiration room-- my online picks

After looking at the inspiration room I chose earlier for the Coastal Chic style I decided to make online picks that would be within MY budget based on that style. Keeping with the same color scheme shown in the room. Let me see how I do...

 Coastal Chic inspiration room

available from amazon.com  price is less than $200

available from amazon.com price is less than $50 each
available from amazon.com (down alternative) price is less than $75

 available from Etsy.com (2 18x18 covers) $24
cover your existing pillows!

available from Target.com could not get an image :( but I chose these
because they are mini so they will be small enough for bedside and silver so they
add another texture to the room as well as versatility and CHEAP $10 each!!

available from o.co price is $142
I chose a rounded back because round edges evoke the feeling of comfort. I wanted a rounded element due to the sharp edges of the bed I chose. The parchment fabric adds a touch of whimsy.

Trunk for end of bed. amazon.com $65 + shipping
I like a trunk or chest big enough for storage. Extra blankets or linens, light jackets or sweaters, books or cds. You can never have enough storage.

available at amazon.com about $90 shipped.
I love this throw! This is one of a kind! But something similar will add that special touch to the room that is yours. Plus it is a conversation piece. If you see this, you want to know more about it! This is made from recycled Saris. The colors blend with the pillows I selected but are not matchy-matchy (my bohemian chic style shining through) :)

Focus Framed Art Print by Michael Faragher

available from amazon.com

A collection of art behind the bed does not necessarily have to be seashell art. The sailors valentines cannot be duplicated so I chose photography print of seashells. I also think an artist macro print of shells or other shore items would be interesting. Keeping the collection in the same color family blends it and a collection of at least 3 is preferred. My bohemian spirit would wan to fill the whole wall with art :)

I hope this little "project" was useful. There are some items to save on and some to splurge on. It is, in the end, your personal room. Make it reflect you inspired by a certain style. You really want to love your home and feel comfortable. For some clean lines and minimalist furniture does the trick, but for me I like more is better. :) If you have an inspiration room or item and would like my take on adding it to your home or space send me a comment or email. I would love to help out. Have a great weekend. (Comments are welcome, please leave one!)

CUTE TJ MAXX FIND!

Look what I found at TJ Maxx!
How cute is this? It is a white pillar candle with a little silver Eiffel Tower charm, pearl and crystal attached to a tiny black and white picture of the tower and finished off with a gray grosgrain ribbon bow. It was super cheap... wait for it.... can you handle it....$3.99!!! I ALMOST bought a small Eiffel Tower charm online for almost $10 bucks when decorating my kids' French country bathroom. However, this little cutie is going in my room, because that is my current project :)

C'est Tres chic! Non?

COASTAL CHIC

Coastal Chic design has been on my mind lately. It can have a very bohemian chic feel infused with coastal elements and colors. Coastal chic is not the same as Nautical. Normally when you think of nautical you think, sail boats, blue and white stripes, anchors, life preservers and such. Coastal chic to me is what you would expect to see in someone's home that actually lives near the beach. Colors inspired by the beach and textures inspired by elements near the beach but not necessarily a big fake palm tree stuck in the corner of a room with a sign that says "Ahoy Mate!" NO! NOT THAT AT ALL.. Coastal chic can just as easily be seen in any home and not just a coastal home and fit in and flow perfectly. Example....

This room is so beautiful! Image is from here . Notice the only true nautical type of element is the seashell art on the wall behind the bed (might I add, very bohemian as well :)) I personally love the seashell art. This look could also be interpreted without the use of blue lamps and use silver based lamps. Taking inspiration from a design does not mean copying it completely. Most of us would not be able to afford to copy the design anyway! Of course, when you can use things you already have you can afford to splurge on something that really sets the space off.

SEASHELL ART

This is the artist, Lynda Susan Hennigan, with one of her beautiful pieces. They are called Sailors Valentines. Find out more from this artical  in Completely Coastal.

Paper Flowers/Paper Poms directions

Just realized that I did not share the steps to make the paper flowers/paper poms. To me they look like huge mums so that's why I think "paper flowers" but some do call them "poms" which fits, too. :)

  1.  Get your Tissue paper (the same kind we use for stuffing gift bags) and count out at least 12 and up to about 18 sheets. Realizing that some tissue paper is a bit thicker and stronger and some a bit thinner and more delicate it may be wise to get enough to practice with just how that tissue paper will respond to the folding and separating that is coming up in the next steps
  2. Lay the sheets stacked and flat on a flat surface and do an accordion  fold all the way down. (accordion fold is the same as you would fold paper to make a fan) The thickness of the fold and layers will be thicker for the stiffer papers and can be thinner and smaller for the more the more delicate and thin tissue paper.
  3. Once your paper is folded into the accordion stack, take floral wire (nice and bendable kind) or pipe cleaners and fold over the middle of the stack and twist tight. Keep the twist on the side of the stack not the top.
  4. Take scissors and trim the ends of the paper to either round them off or into a point. Each way will change the look of the finished product.
  5. Now you are ready to start the fluffing of the flower/pom. Carefully pull one piece of tissue at a time towards the top of the wire in the middle, do not bend or crease the paper. Just lift it. Keep the straight part of your wire pointing down. I hold mine in my opposite hand while fluffing at first.
To keep the round shape pull a few from the top and then a few from the bottom so that they are not all pointed in the same direction.

To hang: tie on some good strength clear wire such as fishing line and trim off any floral wire or pipe cleaner that may show and it is ready to hang. For that floating in the air look.  If you prefer the look of ribbon when hanging them then I suggest to slip the ribbon under the floral wire/pipe cleaner at STEP3 before you twist off the wire. By not wrapping the ribbon around the whole stack it will give you more flexibility when fluffy and the middle will not be too bulky.

I have seen these used as napkin holders also if you use really small paper. Cut the paper down to about the size of your hand.

These would look so dreamy hanging from tree limbs for an outdoor party. However keep in mind, this is tissue paper so NO FIRE and NO WATER...lol!

Paper Flowers

These paper flowers can be used in so many settings, parties, baby mobile, girl's room decor or just plain home decor. I have seen these online in several different usages and just had to try to make one. Of course you can purchase them already made. I had some white tissue paper on hand and had to give it a try...

Not bad for a first try :) This one is quite large! about 14" across. I plan to make two smaller ones or perhaps one medium and one small and hang them with fishing line from my daughter's ceiling. She has been at her grandmother's this week and this will surely be a nice surprise for her when she walks into her room. I wish I had other colors of tissue paper on hand to try. The white is very pretty alone so pink or polka dots would be even cuter for a girl's room.

Painting for sale

I am selling a painting. It was a hard decision since I wish I had enough walls to keep them all. :) However, I need to make room for more creativity and I hope that it will make someone happy and smile :)

Late last night I decided that I was going to finally learn how to thread my grandmother's old sewing machine.  I could never figure it out. Well, I can thank Youtube!! After watching one video I figured it out! Why was it so hard?? I have to laugh at myself. Hopefully I can share some sewing projects later :)
